After being eliminated in the Libertadores semi-final, he analyzed LDU’s 4-0 defeat to Palmeiras, this Thursday (30/10), at Allianz Parque, and stated that his team felt the impact of the synthetic pitch. The coach also recalled Abel Ferreira’s attitude after the first leg, in Quito, won by the Ecuadorians 3-0.
When commenting on the performance in São Paulo, Tiago highlighted the technical difficulties faced by the team. “We weren’t able to play a good game technically. We are on a difficult field to play on, a synthetic field that looks like a school playground, very fast, the ball is always alive, complicated for those who are not used to this pace of play. And we ended up being technically surpassed in the duels”, he stated.

He then regretted the fall, but valued the path taken by the team: “I want to reiterate the effort that the players had to represent the club and reach this condition that they have reached”.
LDU ended its campaign after eliminating Botafogo and São Paulo in the previous phases, and the coach highlighted the impact of the result achieved in Quito. “Obviously, after a 3-0 in our favor in the first game, in which we managed to be superior, we generated positive expectations. I think the difference was that Palmeiras imposed a rhythm that controlled us throughout the game, winning all the duels”, he analyzed. For him, the score at Allianz reflected the performance of the São Paulo team over the 90 minutes: “The score was fair for what Palmeiras produced”.
Tiago also mentioned that LDU’s victory in Ecuador was surprising and pointed out Abel Ferreira’s previous behavior which, according to him, motivated his players. “The first game, especially, was a blow. He thought he was going to get there, it was hooray. Abel talked about the 33, the players who scored the goal, he didn’t even know the names of the guys. So we are sure that Palmeiras, in the end, didn’t respect there as they should have in the first game”, he said.
When projecting the return, the coach reported the mental work carried out with the squad and highlighted the impact of Palmeiras’ style of play. “He told them, he prepared, that if we didn’t have the capacity on this fast court, on this fast field, to play an associated game, to get out of the first pressure and put Palmeiras’ defenders one on one more often, in a favorable condition, we would hardly come from behind”, he explained.
He concluded by stating that the Brazilian team controlled the confrontation: “We ended up not really coming from behind, because Palmeiras scored one against one. And as we were technically unable to gain advantages, we ended up being outperformed all the time.”
