ordered reinforcement of intelligence and monitoring actions on the border with , to prevent the security crisis in the neighboring state from spilling over into Espírito Santo territory.
Despite this, he does not believe that leaders.
“Leaf [no Rio]they are safer and more secure than here. When they come here, they are usually arrested quickly,” says Casagrande.
The reason for this, says the governor, is not a supposed inefficiency of the police or authorities in Rio de Janeiro, but the reality of the state. “The police have more difficulty there because of the territories dominated by factions, the areas in which it is very difficult for public authorities to act.”
Concern about possible infiltration even led to the suggestion of physically closing the border between the two states, made by the president of the Legislative Assembly, Marcelo Santos (União Brasil). The governor, however, rules out this more drastic measure.
“We are monitoring, with intelligence and technology. Physically controlling the barrier is very inefficient, much better is reading license plates, facial biometrics, using the cameras we have throughout the state”, he stated.
He expressed solidarity with , but did not attend the meeting of governors this Thursday (30), which was aimed at right-wing chief executives.
For Casagrande, the Public Ministry will have “a lot of work” to carry out an in-depth analysis of the police action, which left 121 people dead and was the deadliest in the country’s history.
“The number of people who lost their lives is the highest in Brazil. This has to be considered. The security forces have to reflect, analyze, as does the Public Ministry, which has this prerogative”, he states.
The governor also defends the approval of the Security PEC, which is in Congress, and the bill against factions, which should be sent soon to the Legislature by the Lula government.
