At least 21 people have died and 31 are missing in the west after Friday’s landslide triggered by torrential rains, the interior minister said today.

“We have suspended search and rescue operations for today,” but they will resume tomorrow, Sunday, Kipshuba Murkomen wrote on the X platform.

Authorities asked citizens living near rivers and in areas affected by landslides to move to safer places. According to the official figures, in addition to the dead and missing, the disasters also left behind at least 25 seriously injured citizens who were airlifted to the city of Eldoret in western Kenya.

The Kenyan Red Cross released aerial photographs of the area, adding that it was coordinating rescue efforts with the government, including airlifting the injured. “Access to some of the affected areas remains extremely difficult due to flooding and blocked roads,” he wrote in a statement on the X platform.
