Civil Protection said that there is no forecast for reopening of the road that crosses the highest point of Serra da Estrela.
Access to the central Serra da Estrela massif has been closed since 6:30 am this Friday due to snowfall, said Civil Protection.
“Road traffic is closed on sections 11, 12 and 13 of the National Road (EN) 338 due to snow. This is the connection between the Piornos [concelho da Covilhã]the Tower and Lagoa Comprida [concelho de Seia]”, said a source from the Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of Beiras and Serra da Estrela to the Lusa agency.
The same source added that there is no forecast for reopening of the road that crosses the highest point of Serra da Estrela.
The alert is in force until 00:00 on Saturday, with snowfall expected above 1,400/1,600 meters in altitude, with accumulation that could exceed 25 centimeters in the highest points of Serra da Estrela.
