Trump has hardened again, threatening to take over Greenland. However, NATO claims that Europe is not in danger either

US General Alexus Grynkewich has assured that NATO is not in crisis, despite President Trump’s threats to control Greenland. According to him, the readiness of the alliance to protect its territory remains unchallenged.

US General and Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) Alexus Grynkewich said on Friday that the NATO alliance was far from in “crisis”, despite US President Donald Trump’s threats that Washington would gain control of Greenland. This was reported by the AFP agency, writes TASR.

“So far it has had no impact on my work at the military level… I just want to say that today we are also ready to defend every centimeter of the alliance’s territory,” Grynkewich told reporters during a visit to Finland.

Reactions to Trump’s threats

“That’s why I think we are far from a crisis at the moment,” he added.

Grynkewich’s comments come after Trump has repeatedly said he wants the US to take control of Greenland, the mineral-rich autonomous Danish territory. To obtain this island with 57,000 inhabitants, the American president did not rule out the use of military force, explains AFP.

In an interview with The New York Times published on Thursday, Trump was asked if his priority was to preserve NATO or get Greenland. “We may have to choose,” the US president replied.

NATO or Greenland?

In response to this answer, Grynkewich said on Friday that he did not want to comment on whether NATO would survive without the US.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to meet with the representatives of Denmark and Greenland next week. The aim of the meeting is to discuss the latest statements of the US representatives about Greenland.
