The name of Madeleine McCann appeared among the recently declassified and released documents linked to the Jeffrey Epstein case, and the reference once again stirred speculation around the country’s most famous disappearance. But where is it possible to draw the line between reality and misinformation?
Among the documents released, a testimony that is associated with an alleged sighting of Maddie, missing since 2007.
One person (whose identity was not revealed) said that he had witnessed, in September 2009, a situation that he would only consider potentially relevant in the summer of 2020. He says he saw a woman (who he identified as Maxwell) accompanied by a girl who, based on her physical features, seemed to him, according to the person sent on July 7, 2020, to correspond to Madeleine.
The report — which was reported as a “sighting” on the website dedicated to the Maddie case — mentions a detail often highlighted in Maddie’s disappearance: the visible spot on the right eyeconsidered a distinctive element for identification purposes.
In September 2009, I lived in [censurado]. It was a Sunday and it was very calm. I turned from my street to the main street and found myself walking behind a woman and a girl.
There was also a middle-aged man with them, but he was walking much further ahead. When I approached the girl, I noticed that she looked like Madeline McCann. The woman tried to rush her and seemed uncomfortable with my presence. The girl covered her right eye with her hand the entire time we walked. She constantly turned to look at me. After a while, I turned around. I reported what happened to the website as a sighting, as I found it strange. I didn’t think about it again for years, until I saw the Facebook post about Ghislaine Maxwell and the theory that she had taken…
The news is not the first time that Ghislaine Maxwell has been linked to the Maddie case. Rumors on social media linked Jeffrey Epstein’s companion, currently serving a sentence for conspiring with the millionaire to sexually abuse minors, to a robot portrait released by the police in 2009.

Another email from the US Department of Justice (DOJ) within the scope of the Epstein files asks that a possible connection be investigated between Epstein and allegations mentioned in a documentary about the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, as previously reported.
“This could be a line of investigation you might want to pursue,” reads the email with the subject “Jeffrey Epstein”, which has the author and sender censored.
All this information does not, however, constitute any conclusive proof. There is no known evidence that places Maxwell in Portugal at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance, nor any proof that she is the person represented in the authorities’ drawing.
