The prosecutor’s office in Balážske Ďarmota (Balassagyarmat) in northern Hungary filed an indictment against a 31-year-old Slovak citizen who caused a serious traffic accident in January 2024. In the accident, two women were seriously injured, one of them with permanent consequences. This was reported on Wednesday by the infostart.hu server, informs the TASR correspondent in Budapest.

According to the indictment, on the evening of January 12, 2024, a Slovak woman was driving a vehicle in which there was also her partner and three minor children. As a result of excessive speed on the icy surface of the road section between the city of Gyöngyös and the village of Szurdokpüspöki, the car skidded and went in the opposite direction. At the time, two women aged 35 and 36 were standing there waiting for a towing service next to the parked vehicle. The defendant’s car hit both women.
In the accident, an elderly woman suffered permanent injuries and a second woman was also seriously injured. The children in the Slovak woman’s vehicle escaped with minor injuries.
The prosecutor’s office charged the woman with causing a traffic accident through negligence resulting in permanent health damage. The prosecutor requests a suspended prison sentence and a ban on driving motor vehicles for the accused. The District Court in Pásztó will decide the case.
