The São Paulo Civil Police launched, this Monday (9), the Operation M – Safe Carnival, aimed at combating violence against women. The action fulfills more than a thousand arrest warrants against attackers across the state. Until now, 150 people convicted by the courts have already been arrested.

During the action, which is still ongoing, four illegal firearms were seized.
“This operation reinforces that violence against women is treated with the highest priority. Police forces are mobilized to comply with court decisions, remove and interrupt cycles of violence”, said the Secretary of Public Security, Osvaldo Nico Gonçalves.
The initiative is part of a set of permanent actions by the state government aimed at , the qualified repression of aggressors and the strengthening of the protection network for victims.
According to delegate Cristiane Braga, coordinator of the DDMs, this Wednesday is considered the “D-Day” of the operation, with simultaneous actions in several cities.
“These are convicted aggressors who we seek to put behind bars to guarantee women the right to live freely and safely,” he said.
An action with the same focus had already been carried out at the end of 2025. On December 29th and 30th, a joint operation by the secretariats of Public Security and Policies for Women fulfilled 562 across the state.
At the time, most of the arrests occurred in Greater São Paulo, with 161 detainees, 139 of which were in the capital alone. Another 18 men were arrested in the act. The operation mobilized more than 1,800 civil police officers and resulted in 206 arrests on the first day.
