Apple pie with freckles is a home-made hit. The family will love this cake, they won't stop eating just one piece

Freckled apple pie – what does this name mean? It’s actually a classic home-baked cake, but with a slightly twisted version – sprinkled with dark chocolate shavings. A delightful combination of flavors and simplicity of preparation – it’s so hard to resist another piece. When I make this cake on the weekend, it disappears in a moment.

Ingredients for the cake:

  • 320 g of flour,
  • 200 g of cold butter,
  • 80 g of powdered sugar,
  • 2 yolks,
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder.

Ingredients for the stuffing:

  • 1.5 kg apples (sour, hard),
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice,
  • brown sugar (to taste),
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.

Additionally:

  • 50 g of dark chocolate.

Place the flour, sifted powdered sugar, diced butter and egg yolks in the mixer bowl. Mix the ingredients with a hook attachment. At first the dough will have the consistency of powder, but over time it will combine into a coarse crumble. Then knead them briefly with your hand, forming two balls – one slightly larger than the other. Wrap them in food foil. Put the larger one in the fridge and the smaller one in the freezer.

Peel the apples and grate them on the large holes of a grater. If they are very juicy, squeeze out the excess juice.

Roast the apples with lemon juice, cinnamon and brown sugar. Roast – stirring occasionally – over medium heat for about 15 minutes, until the apples start to fall apart. Set aside to cool.

Line a tin measuring approximately 20×25 cm with baking paper. Cut the larger ball of dough into slices and cover the bottom of the form with them (glue them into a tight cake). Prick the dough with a fork and put in the oven preheated to 180°C for 12 minutes.

Place the apple filling on the baked base. Grate the dough from the freezer using a coarse grater and sprinkle it over the apples.

Place the cake back in the oven. Bake for 50 minutes. A few minutes before the end of baking, sprinkle with finely grated chocolate.
