Valentine’s Day, the day of love, is fast approaching. On this occasion, many women receive bouquets of cut flowers from their other halves. It is certainly one of the most beautiful expressions of love, but also a beautiful decoration in our apartment. I guess every woman will admit that they are a substitute for spring. One of the most popular cut flowers that we like to place in a vase are tulips. However, tulips in a vase, like other flowers, need to be cared for. This will keep them looking fresh for many days. There are several very important rules for caring for cut tulips, thanks to which we can effectively extend their life. One of them can even save dying flowers. It’s about ice cubes. Put about three ice cubes into the water in the vase and only then place the tulips in it. Bacteria will not grow too quickly in cold water, so the tulips in the vase will last much longer.

Caring for cut tulips in a vase

In addition to the method described above to extend the life of flowers, there are several others that will make them last much longer in a vase. Firstly – before you put the cut flowers in a vase, use sharp scissors or pruners to cut their stems diagonally to a length of 2 cm. Place the vase in a cool place – not in the sun and it is important that it is away from the fruit bowl. Secondly, remember to change the water in the vase every day. It is also worth adding about half a teaspoon of sugar to the water, as it acts as a conditioner for the tulips. The flowers can also be refreshed by throwing in an aspirin tablet or a copper coin. All these methods inhibit the growth of bacteria and mold in water, and thanks to this, the flowers last longer.
