Former Slovak hockey defenseman Andrej Sekera ended his active career in 2022 at the age of 36. Even so, he closely follows all important events in the world of hockey. During the Winter Olympics, he visited the podcast, where he revealed that he is still in contact with active players. Shortly before the Slovak match, he even wrote to one of the opponents.
Sekera corresponded privately with forward Leon Draisaitl, who is the captain of the German national team. Draisaitl is the biggest star of the German team. He became the first German in the history of the NHL to surpass the threshold of one thousand points in the NHL and has been the offensive leader of the Edmonton Oilers for more than ten years. In men’s hockey, he has not yet led a team or national team in the position of captain. At the same time, it is his first representative experience since the WC 2019 in Slovakia.
The former Slovakian representative wrote to the German star already after their win over France, which they defeated 5:1. “Congratulations,” Sekera congratulated him. “Hahaha bloody thank you” Draisaitl responded jokingly. “Yes, exactly,” the Slovak wrote back to him in German. In the podcast, Sekera revealed that he planned to write to his foreign colleague even before the match with Slovakia. “I will write him something for sure. I still have to think about it. Something so concise again, but I will write him something” he revealed.
The aforementioned podcast posted a screenshot of the messages between Seker and Draisaitl on the social network. The Slovak hockey player really came up with something original and contacted the German star shortly before the start of the match. “Leonka, be good to my friends tomorrow. Don’t try to score,” you dug into him. “Haha bloody. We’ll see,” Draisaitl responded, adding a halo emoji and a devil emoji.
However, that was not the end of their conversation. “We won’t see any! Slovakia, let’s go. Good luck, but not that much,” Sekera answered him teasingly. “Thank you, Seko,” added the German at the end. You can find a PHOTO of their conversation at the end of the article. Slovakia beat Germany 6:2 in Wednesday’s match (February 18).
