Galo da Madrugada brings together 2.5 million revelers and the city breaks a perfume relay record with 320 participants
The carnival block was once again established as the largest in the world. The title, certified by , has been awarded to the block since 1994. On Wednesday (11.Feb.2026), Recife achieved the 2nd world record: the largest perfume application relay on the planet. The information is from the G1 portal.
The Galo da Madrugada parade brought together more than 2.5 million revelers in Recife on Saturday (14.Feb.2026). The public represents 1 million more people than in 1994, when 1.5 million revelers participated in the parade.
In the new record, 320 people participated in the relay applying perfume at the feet of the Giant Rooster on the Duarte Coelho Bridge. The previous record belonged to Saudi Arabia, which had 282 participants in 2025. Representatives from Guinness World Records followed the challenge and checked the validity of the brand.
The relay lasted 22 minutes and 20 seconds. Participants had three chances to beat the record, achieved on the second attempt. The city received a commemorative plaque delivered by Guinness World Records.
UNDERSTAND THE CHALLENGE
Participants sat side by side on the bridge. The first participant received the bottle of perfume, sprayed himself three times, and then sprayed the person next to him three times. Each participant repeated the procedure with the next neighbor. The last person didn’t need to spray, just held the perfume. If the number of sprays was incorrect or if the perfume was applied to the wrong person, the process would begin again.

The group was created at the end of 1977 and paraded for the first time in Recife on January 23, 1978. In 1991, the audience exceeded 1 million people. In 2009, Galo da Madrugada was recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Pernambuco.
The predominant rhythm of the parade is frevo. The structure involves around 30 electric trios, floats, frevo dancers and giant dolls.
