Retired STJ minister Felix Fischer dies – 02/25/2026 – Politics

Retired minister and former president of the (Superior Court of Justice) Felix Fischer died, aged 78, in . The wake will be held at the courthouse this Thursday (26) from 9:30 am. The burial will be at 2:30 pm, at Campo da Esperança cemetery, in the capital of Brazil.

Fischer was admitted to Hospital Sírio-Libanês for medical monitoring, according to the court, which did not disclose the cause of death.

He retired from the court in August 2022, a date preceded by a tribute session in the same month. The judge was celebrated for his prolific career and constant mention in the country’s jurisprudence and criminal law books.

Fisher was the STJ’s rapporteur and voted to condemn the president () in the process that led the PT member to prison on charges in 2018.

He also led proceedings in , against a gang that negotiated the sale of court sentences with the aim of defrauding and, on a smaller scale, allowing bingos to operate.

A naturalized Brazilian, Fisher was born in , in the city of Hamburg, on August 30, 1947. Law was his second degree, completed in 1972 at UFRJ (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro). At the same institution, he graduated in economic sciences.

In 1974, he began his career as a substitute prosecutor in Paraná, where he reached the position of public prosecutor in 1990.

He went to the STJ at the end of 1996, as a member of the Public Ministry. Fisher was president of the Fifth Panel and the Third Section until he reached the presidency of the court, the highest position destined for naturalized Brazilians, since the Constitution intends to occupy the (Supreme Federal Court) for natural-born Brazilians.

According to the court, over more than 20 years of career, Fischer reached the mark of more than 100 thousand cases judged. He was also minister and magistrate of the (Superior Electoral Court) and general director of the National School for Training and Improvement of Magistrates. He was also a member of the Paraná Academy of Legal Letters and Honorary Citizen of Paraná.
