The head of EU diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, called on Afghanistan and Pakistan to immediately reduce tensions and stop hostilities. In a statement published on Saturday night, she also drew attention to possible consequences for the entire region. TASR informs about it according to the report of the DPA agency.

  • The EU called on Afghanistan and Pakistan to stop hostilities.
  • Tension between the two countries continues to rise due to the attacks.
  • Both armies report dozens of dead border soldiers.
  • Kallasová appeals for dialogue and the fight against terrorists in Afghanistan.

Pakistan bombed the Afghan cities of Kabul and Kandahar on Friday in retaliation for an attack by Afghan forces on Pakistani border troops. According to the Afghan Taliban movement, it was a reaction to previous airstrikes by Islamabad.

The attacks in several areas along the border were preceded by border clashes and Pakistan’s strikes on Afghanistan in recent months. Both armies said that dozens of soldiers had already died in the violence.

They call for dialogue

Kallasová, according to the statement, called on both sides of the conflict to return to dialogue. At the same time, she emphasized that the territory of Afghanistan must not be used for attacks on other countries, and appealed to the government there to take measures against all terrorist groups in or from the country.

According to Reuters, cross-border firing continued on Saturday. Pakistani forces said they were continuing the operation and had destroyed several Taliban posts and camps in several sectors. Reuters could not independently verify these claims.

Islamabad accuses Kabul of harboring the Pakistani Taliban, which is separate from the Afghan movement, and allegedly aiding it in cross-border attacks targeting Pakistani security forces. Afghanistan denies these claims.
