FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl expects early National Council elections in 2028. After the state elections in 2027 and 2028, the federal government will no longer be able to “escape from new elections,” he said in the Krone (Saturday Edition) in one of his rare interviews with traditional media. After the election, Kickl wants to continue as chancellor and believes in support from other parties. There are talks with the “shadow ÖVP” around ex-Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, but also with the SPÖ.
