If you are bored with geraniums, look for nemesia in the garden store. This is the latest balcony hit that returns to the stage with a bang with the support of Instagram stars. Choose it, especially if you don’t have time or gardening skills.
Nemesia, although still less popular in Poland than geraniums, has been one of the most frequently chosen balcony plants in the West for years.. Its charm lies in its small, delicate flowers that appear in huge numbers and create the effect of a real flower carpet. It comes in hundreds of shades, from pastel to intense orange, raspberry or two-color. This makes it easy to fit it to any balcony.
Its advantage over geranium is simple: it blooms earlier, thickens faster and is already fully developed in May.. You can choose among its varieties, choosing tufted or hanging versions, whose inflorescences will flow spectacularly from the railings.
Even though it looks like a plant that requires gardening experience, nemesia is surprisingly trouble-free. It can handle both full sun and light shade, and the only thing it really needs is regular, moderate watering.
Unlike geraniums, it is not offended by cooler nights and does not stop blooming when the weather becomes capricious. It regenerates easily, bounces back quickly after pruning and maintains a nice, compact shape throughout the season, which geraniums are not always able to maintain.

Nemesia works well in boxes, pots and bowls. It creates interesting compositions with other flowers, and thanks to its intense colors it can visually enlarge even the smallest balcony. Just a few seedlings are enough to create a “wow” effect that normally requires several species combined.
Growing the plant requires fertile, well-drained soil and regular but moderate watering. The substrate should be slightly damp, but never wet. It blooms most abundantly in full sun or light partial shade. Nemesia is not voracious, but when grown in containers, it is worth feeding it once a month with fertilizer for flowering plants. Pinching off wilted inflorescences will encourage the plant to produce new buds, keeping your balcony colorful all season long.
