Retired prosecutor Fernando da Costa Tourinho Filho died this Monday (2), in the capital of São Paulo, aged 99. The information was released by , which expressed regret at the death of Tourinho Filho.
Born in Nova Viçosa (BA), he graduated from the Faculty of Law and, on October 27, 1954, joined the Public Ministry. Over more than two decades, he held various positions at the institution until his retirement on October 25, 1980.
In addition to his work in the Public Ministry, Tourinho stood out for his career dedicated to teaching and academic production. He is the author of works that have become references, such as “Manual of Criminal Procedure”, “Practice of Criminal Procedure” and “Comments on the Law of Criminal Courts”.
In 2022, he gained the title of professor emeritus at Uniara (University of Araraquara), after half a century of teaching at that institution.
According to Paulo Sérgio de Oliveira e Costa, São Paulo’s attorney general, Tourinho was “a reference for several generations that joined the institution after him, including mine.”
He also spoke out about death
A-SP (Brazilian Bar Association of São Paulo) also spoke out about the death, stating that Tourinho Filho was “one of the most influential jurists in Brazil”.
“Tourinho is an eternal reference as a legal professional and proceduralist. He taught generations of lawyers, judges and prosecutors the principles of a fair, ethical and humanistic process. His work remains. Forever”, says Leonardo Sica, president of the section.
The wake and cremation ceremony will be held this Tuesday (3), at 3pm, at the Horto da Paz Crematorium, in Itapecerica da Serra (SP).
