NYT attributes attack on Iranian girls’ school to US military. The Tomahawk missile hit the object based on outdated data, according to the newspaper’s sources.
The United States is responsible for the Tomahawk missile attack on an Iranian girls’ school in the city of Minab in Hormozgan province on the first day of the Middle East war. More than 160 people died there, and according to the sources of the New York Times (NYT), the tragedy was caused by an error in aiming, reports TASR.
According to the NYT, the US military was attacking an Iranian military base, which included a school building. However, the coordinates of the target were determined based on out-of-date data.
Used Tomahawk missile
The fact that the Tomahawk missile was used in the attack was already reported on Monday by the investigative portal Bellingcat and the AP agency. They stated this based on the analysis of the video capturing the attack.
Iran has blamed the attack on the United States and Israel since the start of the war. Conversely, US President Donald Trump earlier this week blamed Tehran, while Israel denies any involvement. Trump said on Monday that the US was investigating the circumstances of the attack.
Tehran denies the allegations
“Whatever the report shows, I’m willing to accept it,” the US president said, suggesting that Iran may have used the Tomahawk missile to strike the school. However, Tehran does not own these American-made missiles, and only the United States and several of its close allies have them in their arsenal.
