The Public Security Police arrested a couple who stole non-precious metals from an abandoned industry in Marinha Grande, to later sell them in scrap metal dealers, that police force reported this Wednesday.
The Leiria PSP District Command said, in a statement, that, on March 13, a man, aged 32, and a woman, aged 45for committing the crime of theft of non-precious metals, following a police intervention, which occurred following a complaint.
Following information about suspicious movements in that location, agents from the Leiria Criminal Investigation Squadron and the Technical and Forensic Police Unit went to a vacant industrial spacelocated on Avenida 1.º de Maio, in the municipality of Marinha Grande, in the district of Leiria.
“Upon arrival, the police found that the factory building showed obvious signs of abandonment and deactivation, a situation made worse by the damage caused by Depression Kristin. At the back of the industrial space, a set of aluminum rods placed in the structure of a baby carriage were identified,” explained the PSP.
The police intercepted a man inside the building, who was collecting several aluminum rods.
“When asked about his presence at the scene, the suspect stated that he intended to sell the material at a scrap yard located in the city of Marinha Grande. Shortly after the police approach, a woman emerged from inside the building, later identified as co-author of the theft.”
During the security searches carried out on the suspects, a universal pliersas well as a backpack containing several tools, in addition to the baby carriage structure used to transport the stolen material.
According to the PSP, the man admitted that had previously moved to the same location with the aim of stealing similar materials, which he later sold to obtain money intended for the sustenance from drug usea situation he shared with the woman he lives with.
Those responsible for the industrial space went to the scene and immediately expressed their intention to take criminal action against the suspects.
