Dreaming about the real estate business, Alanah Thompson French, an 18-year-old girl from Burton Joyce, a village in the English county of Nottinghamshire, applied in December for an internship vacancy in the area of leases. In response, the company did not move forward with the application because the young woman’s car was no less than 10 years old.
A Haartthe company for which the young woman applied, considered that the car, a Citroen C1 de 2014, it was too old and therefore was not a “reliable vehicle” in terms of ensuring safety.
In the application form for the intern position in the rental area, one of the paragraphs was precisely a question about the age of the candidate’s car. “Is your car less than 10 years old?” the form read. Alanah marked “no”.
In an email to which the had access, the real estate agency stated that it had analyzed Alanah’s application, thanking her for her interest in working for the company. However, she informed the young woman that she had not been selected for the interview phase, since it was mandatory to have access to a vehicle less than 10 years old.
“It is extremely important that our employees use reliable vehicles for their own personal safety, especially when they travel many miles per day and often work alone,” the company statement reads. Haart.
The 18-year-old admitted to having stayed frustrated after seeing the reason why she was excluded from the vacancy.
“It’s a little disheartening because obviously when you apply for jobs, you apply for a bunch of jobs and you get an email saying this… I just can’t understand it,” said the young woman who works in a cafe and wanted to move into real estate now.
“It doesn’t seem fair to me, because how am I going to be able to afford a bigger and better car? And how am I going to be able to get insurance for a bigger and better car?”, added Alanah Thompson French.
Citroen C1 de 2014
O Citroën C1, bought in May, had just said an owner before the young and had less than 65 thousand kilometers on the meter.
To buy the car, Alanah saved a nest egg of around 3.241 euros (2,800 pounds). The young woman also guarantees that the car has never failed you.
“The job market is really difficult for young people,” he said Jenni French, the young woman’s mother, told the BBC.
“I think the more disadvantaged they become due to policies that begin to limit their ability to demonstrate that they have skills and knowledge and that they are capable of doing things, the more difficult the situation becomes,” he added.
Still in the statement, the real estate agency supported its policy by stating that “data from organizations in the automotive sector show that the probability of mechanical problems increases as vehicles age.”
“For this reason, and in line with many organizations that require employees to use their own cars for business purposes, our policy is that vehicles are typically less than 10 years old.”
Despite the ‘no’, Alanah stated that will not give up on the real estate sector and that he will continue to “apply and look for jobs every day.”
