Government base supports Bolsonaro’s house arrest, but demands compliance with the law

Former president Jair Messias Bolsonaro made an appearance lasting around 20 minutes this Thursday, September 11, 2025, in the backyard of the house where he is under house arrest, in Brasília (DF). The First Panel of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) could form a majority today to convict him in the action that investigates an attempted coup d’état. Bolsonaro avoided answering questions about minister Luiz Fux, who yesterday voted to acquit him

PT deputies heard by the Young Pan supported Minister Alexandre de Moraes’ decision to grant house arrest to former president Jair Bolsonaro, this Tuesday (24). THE position, however, comes with caveats.

Deputy Zé Neto (PT-BA) classified the measure as a “technical decision” and defended due legal process. “We have always defended due legal process. If there is this need, it is not about being president or not — it is about complying with the law”, the deputy told Young Pan. For him, there are three dimensions to consider: “the technical, human side and the procedural formulation.” And he was direct about what he expects: “What we advocate is that he complies within the legal rules and respecting his health condition.” Regarding the return to the previous regime, Zé Neto was categorical: “His going home, if there is improvement, implies a return to prison.”

Rogério Correia (PT-MG) was in the same line: said he was in favor of home care given the state of health and agreed to the reevaluation scheduled for three months from now.

On Monday, former minister José Dirceu defended the measure in Direto ao Ponto da Jovem Pan, invoking the legal process — and remembering that Lula, according to PT members, did not receive the same treatment when he was arrested in Lava Jato.

Behind the scenes in the government, allies admit concern about the scenario. A possible serious complication in Bolsonaro’s health — or worse — would have an immediate political impact, with direct repercussions on Flávio Bolsonaro’s electoral chances.
