The former president () considered the decision of the (Federal Supreme Court) that created magistrates and members of the Court to be appropriate and said he saw a tendency towards improvement in the image of the court.
“I think it’s more than reasonable to set a limit,” Temer told Sheet on Wednesday night (25), at the launch of the book “Together we will get there”, by , secretary of Strategic Projects in the government (Republicans).
Despite having set a limit to the pennuricalhos, the STF’s decision, in practice, allows extra amounts of up to 70% of the salary of employees of these bodies — in the case of members of the Supreme Court itself, who receive the civil service ceiling (R$ 46,366), the additional payments can reach R$ 32,456.
For Temer, the decision should reduce pressure on the court. “Removing some of the criticism [sobre penduricalhos]the tendency is to improve the image of the Supreme Court.”
The ministers established that a maximum of 35% of the salary in the Supreme Court. In addition, they agreed to allow another additional amount, based on length of service, which will also be up to 35% of the ceiling, with a transfer of 5% every five years.
The STF says that, with the approved changes, there will be savings of R$7.3 billion per year. According to the president of the court, Edson Fachin, the average monthly payments were R$95,000.
A specialist in public and constitutional law, Temer said he also assessed the definition of which benefits can be paid to judges and prosecutors as positive. “Things are starting to gain more solidity.” Daily wages, length of service, vacation compensation and accumulation of jurisdiction are among the restrictions allowed by the court’s decision.
The former president stated that he was unaware of arguments against the limit imposed by the STF and the establishment of which funds can be maintained.
In recent months, the court has faced deterioration of its image, given the revelation of the ministers’ connections and with the Banco Master case. Moraes, who has been at the STF since 2017, was appointed to the court by Temer.
