The fragmentation of information on social networks is creating very different perceptions about political reality among Brazilians, points out the political scientist Luciana Veigaprofessor at the Department of Political Studies at Unirio (Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro) and professional master’s degree in Digital Communication and Data Culture at FGV Comunicação (Fundação Getulio Vargas).
Participating in the WW Especial program, from CNN Brazilthe professor analyzed the 2026 electoral scenario, and the construction of different political climates.
“If you look at the polls according to groups, groups according to political attitude, you will see the following: a group that is closer to President Lula, or closer to the left, is seeing relatively favorable news. The independents, who are neither on one side nor the other, are seeing more negative news. And people who are more to the right and more Bolsonarists are seeing very negative news”, explains Luciana.
For the teacher, this segmentation of information . “The economy is always a super important aspect, but the perception of the economy in the subgroups is very different. Yes, a bad atmosphere prevails, of lack of expectations, of disappointment, because, in fact, when people voted in the last election [2022]they had the expectation of a Lula who could bring back that moment of prosperity, and that didn’t happen”, he states.
The political scientist also highlights that others have different effects depending on the group. “Public security permeates all groups as a concern, but the issue of corruption tends to favor more the group that is averse to the PT. Studies show that, when the accusation of corruption is linked to the PT, it has a greater effect”, he observes.
The professor concludes that, although political “climates” are increasingly fragmented, they still exert a significant influence on the way Brazilians evaluate candidates and central political themes. “Certainly, the climate of corruption, public security and the feeling of the economy will have an impact, even if it is a little fragmented”, he concludes.
