Iran and the United States received a proposal from mediators to conclude a 45-day ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The goal is to find a way to end the current war, said two Middle Eastern officials for the AP agency, writes TASR.
The proposal comes from Egyptian, Pakistani and Turkish mediators who are trying to stop the fighting, two officials said on condition of anonymity. They hope the 45-day window will allow enough time for extensive talks between the countries to reach a permanent ceasefire. News website Axios was the first to report on the terms of the proposal.
The proposal was sent to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff late Sunday. Iran and the US have not yet responded to it, officials said.
It remains unclear whether both sides will agree to the proposed terms. Iran insists it will continue fighting until it receives financial reparations for the damage and a promise not to be attacked again.
US President Donald Trump, on the other hand, threatened to bomb bridges and power plants. “Tuesday will be power plant day and bridge day in Iran, all in one. Nothing like this has ever happened!!! Open the ****** strait you crazy bastards or you will have hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah.” he wrote on his Truth Social network on Sunday.
