For people suffering from pollen allergies, cool and rainy weather is often a godsend. There are several key reasons why such weather conditions provide relief. Rain effectively washes pollen from the air. Water droplets bind to tiny pollen particles and deposit them on the ground, significantly reducing their concentration in the atmosphere. Thanks to this, after heavy rain, the air becomes much cleaner and allergy symptoms disappear or are much milder. Low temperatures slow down the process of plant pollen. Plants are more active and pollinate more intensively on warm, sunny days. The cold causes their development cycle to be delayed and pollen production to be limited. As a result, on colder days the concentration of allergens in the air is lower. Additionally, on windy but dry days, pollen is intensively dispersed over long distances, while on windless, cool days it stays closer to the plants.

April is primarily a time of intense tree pollen. Birch, alder and hazel dominate then, and they started pollinating in March, but in April they reach the peak of their activity. Birch is particularly problematic due to the high allergenicity of its pollen. In addition to them, oak, ash and poplar pollen also appear in the air. At the end of April, the first grass pollen comes into play, although its main impact will not occur until May.

In May, grasses predominate, which are one of the most common sources of inhalant allergies in Poland. Their concentration in the air increases rapidly, causing hay fever, watery eyes and shortness of breath in many allergy sufferers. In addition to grasses, some trees, such as oak and beech, continue to produce pollen in May. Sorrel and plantain pollen also appear, and at the end of the month the first weeds, e.g. nettle, may begin to pollinate.
