Real Madrid suffered another serious setback in the Spanish championship race ahead of their hoped-for comeback against Bayern Munich. Five days before the quarter-final second leg in the Champions League against the German record champions, coach Alvaro Arbeloa’s Madrilenians rested numerous regular players – and ultimately did not get beyond a 1-1 (0-0) draw against FC Girona without David Alaba. The gap to league leaders FC Barcelona is currently six points, but the Catalans can move further ahead on Saturday.
