The 2026 World Cup will have 52 referees, 88 assistants and 30 video referees chosen by FIFA, following a “selection process based on the quality and consistency of performance at the highest level.”

The referees selected are the best in the world. They were part of a larger group of referees that has been identified and monitored over the past three years.
