The former deputy (PL-SP) stated that the (-RJ) by the Customs and Control Service of this Monday (13) was motivated by an alleged minor traffic violation and that there is “good expectation” for the release.
In a video published on social media, Eduardo stated that he is working to ensure that Ramagem is released quickly by the authorities. The son of the former president (PL) from 2025, where he articulates sanctions against Brazilian authorities.
“The issue of Ramagem is not an arrest caused by the Brazilian government in an extradition process, but rather because he probably, allegedly, committed a minor traffic violation and ended up being taken to the police station, where he ended up culminating in the immigration analysis of the [Serviço de Imigração e Alfândega, agência federal dos Estados Unidos responsável por fiscalizar a imigração]”, these.
“This is a detention, it is not a prison per se. But there is a good expectation that he will be released and continue to respond to his asylum process in freedom”, he added.
Convicted by the (Federal Supreme Court) for the coup plot, Alexandre Ramagem is considered a fugitive from Brazilian justice. A claims, however, that he was arrested for immigration issues in Orlando, Florida.
The former parliamentarian was sentenced to 16 years and one month in state prison in 2022. He served as director general of Abin (Brazilian Intelligence Agency) in the Bolsonaro government.

Federal deputy Bia Kicis (PL-DF) stated that she had spoken to Ramagem’s defense. According to her, the former deputy was detained because his driver’s license was out of date.
Other Bolsonarist politicians also spoke out. The leader of the PL in the Chamber, (RJ), stated that he will follow Ramagem’s arrest “with utmost attention” and said that the case “directly touches on respect for the guarantees and performance of a parliamentarian elected by the Brazilian people”.
“We trust in the common sense of the United States authorities to understand the context in which this episode takes place, marked by a scenario of strong political tension in Brazil,” he wrote in a note.
At a press conference in the Chamber of Deputies, the leader stated that the PL is not acting on the case. He said he found out about Ramagem’s situation from friends and family of the former deputy.
Asked whether he thinks it is legitimate for a person to leave the country while responding to legal proceedings, Cavalcante said that “if he is being politically persecuted, it is his right.”
The leader of the opposition in the Chamber, Cabo Gilberto (PL-PB), stated that the case of the former Abin director would be “another chapter” of an elected parliamentarian “being silenced, censored, persecuted and even being pushed out of his own country”.
“This didn’t start today. It’s a sequence of decisions that come, step by step, restricting the actions of those who stand against the system,” he said in a statement.
