President embarks on a 6-day agenda with bilateral meetings and participation in international events
The president (PT) embarked this Thursday (April 16, 2026) on a 6-day agenda in Europe, with commitments in Spain, Germany and Portugal. During the trip, the vice-president (PSB) assumes the presidency.
The roadmap takes place 2 weeks before the entry into force of the agreement between Mercosur and the European Union, scheduled for May 1st. Lula arrives in Barcelona this Thursday (April 16).
“I embark this morning on an important working trip to Spain, Germany and Portugal. The objective is to consolidate partnerships, attract investments and discuss urgent global issues, such as defending democracy, multilateralism and combating inequalities”said Lula in a post on Instagram.
On Friday (April 17), the president will meet with the Spanish head of government, Pedro Sánchez. The 2 must sign bilateral agreements, including one on rare earths. Lula also participates in the Brazil-Spain Summit and international meetings on defending democracy, with leaders such as Cyril Ramaphosa, Gustavo Petro and Claudia Sheinbaum.
In Germany, Lula will have a meeting with Chancellor Friedrich Merz and will participate in the Hannover Fair, a global technology and industrial innovation event in which Brazil is the guest country in this edition.
The agenda also includes a visit to Portugal, where the president meets with Prime Minister Luís Montenegro and President António José Seguro.
In addition to his political commitments, Lula will participate in meetings with Brazilian and European businesspeople in Spain and Germany. According to the president, the objective is to consolidate partnerships and attract investments.
