The Federal Senate approved this Wednesday (15), by 50 votes to 8, the nomination of Odair Cunha (PT-MG) for the position of minister of the Federal Audit Court (TCU). On Tuesday (14), the Chamber of Deputies had elected federal deputy Odair Cunha to a vacancy in the TCU. In total there were 303 votes in favor.
The vote, which was secret and nominal, was attended by 456 deputies. There were 4 blank votes. Odair Cunha will replace minister Aroldo Cedraz, who retired.
In his speech before the vote, Odair stated that “The court should not be an obstacle, but a beacon of good management. It is in this spirit that I defend the guiding role of this court, which helps the manager to get things right, prevents problems and avoids waste before they happen”, he argued. The TCU is made up of nine ministers.
Graduated in law, Odair Cunha, was born in Minas Gerais, and began his political activism in 1999. He was elected federal deputy for the first time in 2002. In 2013, he was state president of the Workers’ Party, and in 2015 he assumed the State Secretariat of the Government (Segov), a position in which he held until 2018.
