President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was received this Friday (17) by the President of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, in an official arrival ceremony in the gardens of the Pedralbes Palace in Barcelona.
Lula to fulfill his official agenda in Europe, in addition to Spain. The president has commitments planned in Germany and Portugal until next Tuesday (21).
After the ceremony to welcome the Brazilian, the leaders went to a restricted meeting at the Royal Palace of Pedralbes.
During his visit to the first country, Lula participated in the 1st Brazil–Spain Summit alongside Pedro Sánchez. He will also meet with businesspeople from sectors such as agribusiness, energy, infrastructure, telecommunications and finance.
In the evening, he participates in a dinner offered by the Spanish government at the National Art Museum of Catalonia, within the context of the Democracy Always Forum.
On Saturday (18), still in the city, Lula will participate in the 4th High-Level Meeting of the forum, an initiative aimed at strengthening international cooperation in defense of democracy, as well as an event with representatives of civil society and trade unions.
Spain is Brazil’s eighth largest trading partner, with a trade flow of US$12.6 billion in 2024 and a Brazilian surplus of around US$4.96 billion. The country is also among the main investors in Brazil, with a stock of approximately US$50 billion.
