Swedish King Karol XVI. Gustav arrived in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv on Friday, the first monarch to visit the country since the beginning of Russia’s military invasion in 2022, the government in Stockholm announced. TASR informs about it according to the report of the DPA agency.

“You have our full support,” Karol Gustáv said in a short speech in Lviv, Swedish news agency TT reported.

Zelenskyy published a separate video on social networks, in which it can be seen how together with the Swedish monarch they honored the memory of fallen Ukrainian soldiers by laying flowers. “We are extremely grateful for this show of respect,” the Ukrainian president wrote on the X platform.

Special support for Ukraine

Karol Gustáv arrived in Ukraine together with the Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard. A statement from the Swedish government indicates that its program includes “further visits to gather experience gained during the war”.

“Swedish support for Ukraine is special. It has broad political support, but it also comes from society and from people’s hearts,” the TT agency quoted the head of Swedish diplomacy as saying.

Sweden, like many other European countries, has provided Ukraine with military aid packages since the beginning of the invasion, DPA adds.
