Close to the middle of his second term, the mayor () has been having conversations with allies in recent days to discuss his succession in .
The mayor plans to invest in someone of his own to run in 2028. Among the most highly rated are Fabrício Cobra, secretary of Subprefectures, and Sidney Cruz, who resigned from the Housing portfolio and returned to be a councilor for the capital’s MDB. He is expected to run for a seat in Alesp (São Paulo Legislative Assembly) in October.
Government Secretary, Edson Aparecido, the most experienced member of Nunes’ team, informed the mayor that he does not plan to run for any position.
Cruz has experience as an asset and has carried a voting base with him since the 2020 and 2024 campaigns for councilor.
Secretary of Nunes since the previous term, Cobra is without a party and would have to join the MDB. In 2024, he left the PSDB.
Although he intended to invest in someone on his team, the mayor under no circumstances considered the name of his deputy, (PL), with whom he has an unstable relationship, during the conversations.
