Flávio’s possible deputy, deputy focuses on Catholics – 04/23/2026 – Panel

One of the names mentioned as vice-president of (), federal deputy Simone Marquetto (-SP) will have an agenda dedicated to meetings with Catholic leaders over the next two months, to reinforce her bond with this segment.

Her long-standing connection with Catholicism is considered an asset by the PP for the senator’s running mate.

“While evangelicals already have a strong relationship with Flávio, the Catholic milieu still suffers a lot of influence from the left. She [Marquetto] can help on this point”, says the president of the PP of the state of São Paulo, federal deputy Maurício Neves, one of the organizers of the deputy’s name.

The PP’s forecast is to hammer out its position in the presidential election at the beginning of June. First, the party and União Brasil, the party with which it forms a federation, need to decide whether to formally support Flávio’s candidacy, a hypothesis that today seems likely.

Once this stage is completed, the name of the vice-president will be decided – if the vacancy really falls to the federation.

On April 7th, to get to know each other.

“I really enjoyed the meeting, Flávio is willing to do true mission work. He said he doesn’t just want to use the Catholic Church, he wants to unite the two faiths for Brazil”, he states.

According to her, the idea is for the ticket to have “a space for Catholics”.

Former mayor of Itapetininga (SP), Marquetto is one of the leaders of the Catholic parliamentary front in Congress.

She also has a project that declares Campina Grande (PB), a city where Catholic and evangelical festivals take place during Carnival, “capital of faith”. The text has already been approved by the Chamber and is in the Senate.

For the deputy, the support of Catholics on the right is natural. “I don’t see how it is possible for a Catholic to support the left, which brings anti-life agendas. The left may be popular on the social side, but not because of the Christian values that the government does not have today,” he says.
