An armed attack at a hospital in Chicago claimed the life of a 38-year-old police officer and seriously injured his colleague. The robbery suspect ended up in handcuffs after escaping.
One police officer was killed and another was seriously injured in a shooting at a hospital in the American city of Chicago on Saturday. Police Chief Larry Snelling said officers were attacked by a robbery suspect they were escorting. TASR informs about it according to AP and CNN reports.
“Officers transported the subject to Swedish Hospital for observation, at which time two of our officers were shot,” Snelling said, adding that a 38-year-old officer was killed and another, 57, was in critical condition.
CNN says it’s unclear how the suspect, who was metal-detected when he arrived at the hospital, obtained the firearm. Snelling says police are investigating. After the shooting, the attacker managed to escape from the hospital to a house a few blocks away. The police then detained him. The hospital has locked down its campus and said both its patients and staff are safe.
