Sabastian Sawe made history at the London Marathon by taking victory with an absolutely extraordinary feat.
The Kenyan long distance runner became the first athlete to run the distance in less than two hours, finishing the race in an impressive time of 1h59.30, setting a new world record and surpassing Kelvin Kiptum’s previous mark.
In a race that had around 59,000 participants, Sawe not only won but also entered athletics history, with an impressive average equivalent to around 7,200 euros for each kilometer covered.
The performance earned him a total prize of around 300 thousand euros, resulting from the sum of the base value given to the winner with various bonuses for performance, including the world record and the time achieved.
The mythical two-hour barrier, for years considered almost impossible to achieve, was finally overcome, in a historic moment for the sport.
Kenyan Sabastian Sawe is the first person in history to officially complete the marathon in less than two hours 🤯
