Road operation records seven deaths and 48 serious injuries in one week

In a week Seven people died on Portuguese roads and 48 were seriously injured. These are the numbers of fourth campaign of the National Inspection Planwhich focused on the most vulnerable users.

Punishing and raising awareness are the objectives of the authorities, who have been on Portuguese roads over the last week.

The focus is on drivers, but for the first time, it is also on those who walk, cycle or scooter.

The National Road Safety Authority, together with the GNR and PSP, warns of dangers such as crossing the road outside the zebra crossing or not respecting traffic lights.

In this operation, there was more than 58 thousand inspections and 16 thousand road infractions.

There were also 2,500 accidents, of which rresulted in seven deaths and 48 serious injuriesbeing the Speeding is one of the main causes.

Although the number of accidents has increased compared to last year, there were fewer deaths and fewer serious injuries.

By the end of the year, seven more campaigns under the National Road Inspection Plan are planned.
