Although Jiřina Bohdalová (94) and Hana Gregorová (73) belong to the top actors who have portrayed dozens of destinies on stage or in front of the camera, their biggest and most painful drama took place outside the spotlight. It’s a fascinating paradox that confirms the old well-known rule that life sometimes writes the most incredible scenarios. Bohdalová spoke about their personal dispute for the first time in the new documentary A jede se furt dál.
It is quite symbolic that two women who dedicated their lives to art became the protagonists of a story about love, betrayal and decades of silence – a story that might seem like a cliché in a TV adaptation, but left deep traces in their reality. Fate linked them together thanks to a single man so tightly that although they hardly ever spoke to each other, their names will remain forever linked in the public eye in this bittersweet love triangle.
The main conflict arose during the filming of the film Night Riders. Radoslav Brzobohatý († 79) was married to Jiřina Bohdalová at that time and they formed one of the most popular couples in show business. On the set, however, he met the Slovak actress Hana Gregorová, with whom he fell passionately in love. Paradoxically, Hana’s then-husband Gassan convinced her to accept the role.
A stormy divorce followed, which Bohdalová bore as a public and personal disgrace, and she could not forgive Brzobohatý for this betrayal for a long time. While Gregorová and Brzobohatý formed a stable couple, lived with him for 31 years and raised their son Ondřej together, Bohdalová never remarried after the divorce.
Both ladies consistently ignored each other at social events, and Bohdalová practically did not talk about Gregorová in the media at all. That changed in the new exclusive documentary, which was created on the occasion of Bohdal’s 95th birthday, which she celebrates on May 3.
The general public believed that the end of the relationship between Bohdalová and Brzobohatý was accompanied by harsh arguments. “Perhaps you read somewhere that we quarreled so much that we disturbed the neighbors. That is not true. After all, we lived in a house – we would have to choke and scream in order to be heard in the villa next door” she said honestly.
She formed a clear opinion of Gregorová and for the first time said what was going through her mind at that time. “If I wasn’t Bohdalová then, I would have taken care of myself. I would have gone to Slovakia to sort it out. By hand and with all the shame. But an anonymous lady can do that, Bohdalová can’t. It’s a shame.” she didn’t put a napkin in front of her mouth.
