EU: Trump’s car tariffs show that the US is unreliable

US President Donald Trump’s announcement to increase tariffs on European Union (EU) cars shows that the US is an unreliable trading partner, said Bernd Lange, chairman of the European Parliament’s trade committee, this Friday (1st).

“This latest move demonstrates how untrustworthy the U.S. side is,” Lange said.

“This is no way to treat close partners. Now we can only respond with the utmost clarity and firmness, leveraging the strength of our position.”

According to the Republican, the measure is a retaliation for the European bloc’s non-compliance with the trade agreement made with the North Americans.

In a post on the Truth social network, Trump said that cars and trucks produced in the USA will not be taxed.

“Many car and truck factories are currently under construction, with more than 100 billion dollars invested, a record in the history of car and truck manufacturing,” he said, adding that the units will be “opened soon.”
