Malafaia says he suffered persecution after becoming a defendant in the STF – 05/03/2026 – Politics

The pastor stated this Sunday (3) that he was the target of “political persecution” after becoming a defendant in the (Supreme Federal Court) and again criticized the minister during a service at the Assembly of God Vitória em Cristo (ADVEC), in the north of Rio.

Without naming names regarding the case, the religious leader said he did not commit a crime by making criticisms that he classified as generic and defended what he called the right to freedom of expression. “When you speak generally, it doesn’t (commit a crime). I didn’t mention anyone’s name,” he said.

The ceremony this Sunday is attended by the senator and presidential candidate (PL-RJ), former governor Cláudio Castro (PL-RJ), federal deputy Sóstenes Cavalcante (PL-RJ), state deputy Douglas Ruas (PL) and former mayor Marcelo Crivella (Republicans), who participated in the service and were called to the altar by the pastor.

Malafaia also attacked the fake news inquiry, which is being processed by the STF, classifying it as “illegal” and “immoral” and saying that it was opened “to silence” people who criticize court ministers. According to him, there is an attempt to “intimidate” and silence opponents.

When mentioning Moraes, the pastor said he criticizes the magistrate, but does not hate him. He then stated that if the minister “does not repent”, “justice will come upon him in the name of Jesus”.

The statement comes days after the First Panel of the STF.

The action originated in a representation presented by , after a speech by the pastor on Avenida Paulista.

On April 6, 2024, from the top of the sound car, the religious leader stated: “Where are these four-star generals, from the Army High Command? Bunch of weaklings, bunch of cowards, bunch of omissions. You don’t honor the uniform you wear. It’s not to launch a coup, no, it’s to make a point.”

Some of the ministers understood that there was no evidence of slander, when there is a false accusation of a crime, but that the statements could constitute an insult to honor, which led to the receipt of the complaint for insult.

The decision was taken by majority, with differences among ministers regarding the framing of the speeches.
