Slovak actor Roman Pomajbo gained viewers thanks to his performances in the series Horná Dolná, DeLukse and above all from the improvised show Partička. He is currently performing in the La Komika Theater and in the Podpalubí Theater. In an interview with he admitted that recently he had to keep a smile on his face on stage while he was very scared in private.
The artist and his wife Petra have been a stable couple for more than 20 years. They raise four children together – daughters Vivien, Noemi, Timea and son Eliot. He accompanied one of his daughters on a visit to the Institute of Medical Cosmetics. He had no idea that he would find himself in the position of a patient. The doctor alerted him to a suspicious mark on his face. A series of tests and an endless wait for the results followed.
He learned the verdict at the most inopportune time. “It happened that the histology results came to me a few minutes before the show. When I went on stage, it occurred to me that yes, it’s confirmed, it’s skin cancer. I almost died… so I didn’t know what to do next.” he described the situation he got into and he couldn’t process it in such a quick moment.
Despite the initial shock, he tried to laugh and played the show. He then heard good news from the doctors. “Fortunately, they cut it out and I’m fine. It wasn’t melanoma, it was basal cell carcinoma. Anyone can have that, you just don’t know about it. It’s been a memento for me ever since,” he explained in an interview for a Slovak portal with relief.
This experience forced him to reconsider his approach to his own health, and today he tries to spread awareness among others. “You have to think about yourself, go for preventive check-ups… so I already know that I have to be careful of the sun. Now I go after press conferences, so I’m careful because it’s still so fresh.” concluded Pomajbo.
