According to the expert, While Saudi Arabia continues to defend coordinated supply restrictions to sustain high prices in the long term, the United Arab Emirates is betting on quickly expanding production to monetize its reserves.

For Rodrigues, the decision is motivated by the fear that the energy transition will impact global demand for fossil fuels. Outside of OPEC+, the country can adopt its own strategy, without the organization’s constraints.

The stated objective is to increase production to around 5 million barrels per day by 2027”, he stated.
