While the summer season is fast approaching, authorities are investigating a suspected sewage leak, writes the website On the Croatian beach Trstenik in Split a worrying phenomenon has appeared in recent days. A brown band was observed in the sea, indicating possible sewage pollution.
Chairman of the Trstenik district, Damir Barbir in this regard, he immediately contacted the local water and sewage works (ViK). The competent authorities are asked whether it is really waste water, whether there is a health risk for bathers, and what is the current state of the local collection and drainage system. “I will not remain silent as long as there is even the slightest suspicion of a threat to the sea in which our children will bathe,” he pointed out forcefully.
Croatian coastal cities struggle with the same problem every year, and hygienists temporarily close dozens of beaches during the season. In the past, part of the inhabitants of the town of Kaštel Lukšić, which is located near Split, had to deal with the contamination of the water supply system, because cruise ships discharged fecal and other waste water into the sea, the portal wrote. The situation was also dealt with by the Split-Dalmatia police, who confirmed that several people had health problems.
They once “enjoyed” theirs on the beach in Smokvica on the island of Korčula, where the sea was polluted with feces, i.e. with Escherichia coli bacteria (E. coli), so swimming was not recommended until further notice.
