Anvisa says bacteria was identified in 100 batches of Ypê products

The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) reported that it identified the presence of the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa in more than 100 batches of finished products under the Ipê brand at the Amparo (SP) factory. During a meeting of the board of directors, this Wednesday, the president of the regulatory body, Leandro Pinheiro Safatle, reiterated that the population should not use the brand’s products listed by the supervisory body and should seek the company’s customer service.

— 76 irregularities were detected, ranging from serious failures related to microbiological quality with the identification of the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa in over 100 batches of finished products to deficiencies in the control of packaging materials — said Safatle.

According to him, the finding occurred after a joint inspection by Anvisa, the Surveillance Center of the state of São Paulo and the municipal surveillance service, in April 2026.

Anvisa’s inspection was based on Resolution 1,834/2026, published on May 5, which determined the suspension of manufacturing and the recall of batches of dishwasher detergent, liquid laundry soap and Ypê brand disinfectant with final number 1.

Safatle said that the manufacturer and Anvisa are holding technical meetings to mitigate the identified health risk. The company presented investments made, intensified efforts to correct irregularities and committed to adopting measures to comply with health regulations by this Thursday.

— We reiterate the recommendation not to use the products listed in RE 1,834/2026 and to seek the company’s consumer service — stated the president of Anvisa.

Anvisa’s board removed from the agenda the judgment of the appeal presented by Química Amparo against the resolution that determined the suspension of manufacturing and the recall of products. The case will return to the collegiate’s analysis on Friday.

The president of Anvisa took advantage of the board meeting to defend the agency’s actions, based, according to him, on scientific criteria. He criticized the politicization on social media surrounding the decision that ordered Ipê products to be removed from supermarket shelves. The measure is the target of attacks from Bolsonarists.

—The circulation of false, distorted or deliberately misleading information not only compromises the quality of public debate, but above all puts lives at risk in the health sector — highlighted the president of Anvisa.

For him, this debate impacts social trust and is a “disservice” to the population. In suspicions related to public health risks, Anvisa needs to act quickly, he added.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a common microorganism in the environment, found in water, soil and damp surfaces. The risk is low for most people, but increases in immunosuppressed people, patients undergoing cancer treatment, transplant recipients, people with wounds, burns or dermatitis, as well as babies and frail elderly people.

Ypê said in a statement that it is in “maximum collaboration” with Anvisa in the search for a definitive solution to the issue. As part of this process, representatives from Ypê met with the agency yesterday and presented an update of the action plan with the evolution of its manufacturing process, “reaffirming its full compliance with the recommendations made by Anvisa”.

“The company is presenting detailed information and technical microbiology reports with checks carried out on the processes, as well as the risk analysis for the consumer. For this reason, Ypê asked the Collegiate Board of Anvisa to maintain the effects of the appeal that suspended RE 1.834/2026, until the presentation of the documentation to the regulatory body is completed”, says the company’s note.
