Popular group No Name and winner of the fifth season of the singing competition Czech Slovak SuperStar Tereza Mašková they transformed their friendship into a joint duet Don’t count years, count friends! The Slovak group is extremely popular in the neighboring Czech Republic, that’s why it was connecting with a famous singer is the icing on the cake in their rich music career.
The song, which refreshes before the arrival of summer, is a confession about the people who stay in our lives and don’t leave. The message of the song is also a reflection of today’s times, in which people are under pressure to prioritize the outside over the inside. At the premiere of the song, he was also with musician Teri Čikoš.
The singer has already practically received one song from the group. “I think that the idea was there a little from the beginning, when we met, or at least when I met the guys, it actually started with the song About us two, which the guys wrote for me and then it only took time, as Igorko says, for the song to come at the right time,” explained Tereza Mašková.
According to Igor Timek, the specific idea of creating a duet was born when they went to see Terezka in the theater. “In the Karlín musical theater, where Whitney Houston played and of course she sang famously, and after the end, somehow everything relaxed. We ended up right in that theater club, it was relaxed and around three, four, when such a special pink drink Maškovka was drunk, so it was already flying there, the waitresses were already singing, they were even singing in the glass, if I remember,” the singer recalled with humor. Mashkovka is a real drink that was invented for her in the theater.
“So I say: Terezka, come, I have something for you. We sat down at the piano, which is very beautiful that there is still a piano in the clubs, it was so romantic, so symbolic. So I hummed it over my shoulder, as they say in Moravia, don’t count the years, count the friends and Terezka said something like – hey, it’s nice, let’s try to work it out,” added Timko.
According to musician Zoltán Sallai, they did it musically by first forming an idea on the piano, then everyone from the band added their own. Igor Timko is also known for writing lyrics that have a deeper message.
Did this song also arise from a specific situation or feeling? “We at No Name believe that sing what you live and live what you sing. That’s absolutely ideal. If we had written You and Your Sister today at the age of 47, it would probably be inappropriate. So it was significant for that age. And that’s why even those songs like Life is too long for one love or songs that have a slightly different subtext than the youth bands probably also come about spontaneously,” Timko added to the topic.
The singer claims that relationships between people are complicated and that hardly anyone solves them at all. “And I think that music, when you have the urge to sit down at the piano and say something to people, it can send a signal to society. I think that is the added value of that music. Who doesn’t see it in that, I somehow don’t dishonor it. Someone likes songs that do not disturb you, do not make you happy, while ironing. I have the feeling that every piece of music that comes from the radio or some other medium has a telling value, at least a possibility. We try to gently give signals to that society about what we think and what we are convinced of. As Slovaks, we know very little about iconizing our own people,” explained the leader of No Name.
