According to the international press, there are two injured, including one of the suspects who was detained and taken to the hospital; lockdown was lifted around 6:45 pm ET
The White House was isolated this Saturday (23) after gunshots were heard around the United States presidential residence. However, at around 6:45 pm ET the lockdown was lifted. According to the Police Department, the Secret Service is working an incident at 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. “Please avoid the area,” says the statement, shared on social media. According to Fox News, at least 30 shots were heard.
According to information, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, was inside the White House at the time of the incident, where he was trying to negotiate an agreement with Iran. CBS News reported that two injuries were reported, including one suspect. An officer said the shooting suspect was shot and taken to the hospital.
Also through social media, FBI director Kash Patel said that the agency is providing support to the Secret Service. Selina Wang, a reporter for ABC News, who covers daily politics in Washington, was at the scene and posted a video of the moment. “I was in the middle of recording a video on the North Lawn of the White House when I heard the shots. It sounded like dozens of gunshots. We were told to run to the press room,” Wang said.
Other members of the press who were at the scene were also asked to go to the press room. The incident is being investigated and the origin is still unclear.
Shots at event with Trump
The episode comes less than a month after an event with the President of the United States was the target of gunfire at a hotel in Washington. At the time, Cole Tomas Allen, 31, the gunman, was arrested and charged with attempting to assassinate Trump. It was the first time that Trump participated in the meeting as US president.
They were heard with the bangs and guests at the White House Correspondents’ Association gala dinner ran to hide under the tables.
