Alckmin says democracy guarantees freedom of the press

Vice-president represented Planalto at the “Uol” 30th anniversary event this Thursday (May 28)

The vice-president (PSB) gave, this Thursday (May 28, 2026), a speech in which he defended the importance of democracy in freedom of the press. The speech was made on stage during the 30th birthday party of the Uolnews portal founded by Grupo Folha, which took place at the Biennial Pavilion, in São Paulo (SP).

In his speech, he cited the importance of a public figure defending democracy and his ability to allow a free press.

“Mário Covas, Fábio, said that, in public life, a man or a woman can be a little more to the right, a little more to the left, a little higher, a little shorter, but what differentiates men and women is who has appreciation for democracy and who has no appreciation for democracy. And democracy guarantees freedom of the pressstated the vice president.

In addition to the vice-president, several names from the media, politics and journalism were also present, such as the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, (PSD), the editorial director of Folha, Otávio Frias Filho, and the singer Ney Matogrosso, who performed at the event.
