Allies of the senator (-RJ), businessman Paulo Figueiredo and the former federal deputy once again defended with the government the application of sanctions against the minister of the (Federal Supreme Court) with , a mechanism that provides for financial punishments and restrictions on entry into the country.
The information was confirmed by Figueiredo to Sheet. “I made this request in every meeting we had,” he said, highlighting that the request came only from him and Eduardo, but not from Flávio.
Figueiredo’s statement comes after the Donald Trump government decided to classify the criminal factions (Primeiro Comando da Capital) and CV (Comando Vermelho) as terrorist organizations.
For Figueiredo, the American decision to classify the groups placed the Lula government in a delicate position. “We tied the knot with Lula,” he said.
According to him, the measure represented “a coup for Brazil” and “a political coup” for the pre-campaign of Jair Bolsonaro’s eldest son.
The Lula (PT) government criticizes the measure. The Presidency’s special advisor for international affairs, Celso Amorim, stated that criminal factions must be fought, but criticized their classification as terrorist organizations.
“Public security is a fundamental issue for socioeconomic development. It is an evil that must be combated. International cooperation is welcome, especially on issues such as money laundering and weapons smuggling. A pretext for intervention is unacceptable,” said President Lula’s advisor, in a note.
In addition to the designation, Paulo Figueriedo, who accompanied the Bolsonaro brothers at meetings held this week in Washington, says that defending the resumption of sanctions against Moraes is a permanent agenda for him and Eduardo. “I may lose, but I will continue advocating for this issue,” said the businessman.
Flávio Bolsonaro, according to Figueiredo, preferred to “abstain” from the topic. “Eduardo Bolsonaro and I have always acted in this direction and continue to defend this measure,” said Figueiredo.
On Tuesday (26), the group was at the White House to meet with the president. The next day, they met with Marco Rubio and Christopher Landau, US Secretary of State and Assistant Secretary of State, respectively. They also met with other members of diplomacy.
During CPAC, the main conservative conference in the United States, held in March, Eduardo Bolsonaro had already mentioned the possibility of resuming sanctions against Moraes. The STF minister and his wife, Viviane Barci de Moraes, were targeted by the measure last year, but the restrictions were later reversed in December.
“She can return. Just as she left at the president’s will, President Trump just needs to want her to return. Wherever I go, I have spoken and asked for this return,” Eduardo said at the time.
