An unexpected incident took place in a Viennese supermarket, which was the fault of a woman from Slovakia. Although at first it was a simple theft, the situation quickly turned into a huge drama, . What initially looked like a banal attempt to leave the store without paying escalated into an attack in which not only employees but also the police had to intervene.
- Two middle-aged women wanted to steal goods from a supermarket in Vienna.
- When she tried to leave without paying, the woman was discovered by store staff.
- The suspects refused to cooperate and physically attacked the store employees.
- One of the perpetrators was a thirty-five-year-old Slovak woman who bit a worker on the shoulder.
They wanted to leave without paying
The violent incident took place on Saturday morning at a business in Vienna’s third district, Landstraße. Austrian police said that at that time, two women should have entered the store and immediately started putting goods in their bags. They wanted to get away with a purchase with a total value of approximately 150 euros.
The critical moment occurred when the pair tried to pass through the checkout zone. That’s when they were noticed by the store staff, who immediately asked the women to give an explanation when they tried to leave without paying. After such an embarrassment, most reasonable customers would return all the goods, but in this case the situation took a much worse turn. The suspects refused to cooperate and instead physically assaulted the staff.
Unexpected step of the perpetrator
A fight broke out between the employees and the couple. One of the perpetrators managed to take advantage of the moment of surprise and run out of the store. She left the bag with the stolen goods lying on the ground and ran into the streets of Vienna.
The second of the women, whom the police finally identified as a thirty-five-year-old Slovak, was not so lucky. After the supermarket staff successfully pacified her, the perpetrator took a last desperate step. In a frenzy, she attacked one of the employees and bit him on the shoulder. The person suffered minor injuries and required medical treatment.
The police are investigating the case
A police patrol from the nearby Fiakerplatz precinct arrived at the crime scene. The officers detained the violent Slovak woman and took her away. This was followed by a check of the identity and criminal history of the detainee, which revealed that she does not have a registered residence in Austria. In addition, the results showed that the perpetrator was no novice – she had been repeatedly prosecuted for property crime in the past.
After documenting the entire incident, the police handed over the file to the Viennese prosecutor’s office. Due to the fact that the Slovak woman physically attacked the staff while trying to escape from the scene of the crime, the incident is being investigated as an attempted robbery. The Vienna prosecutor’s office ordered that the Slovak woman be prosecuted at liberty. After carrying out the necessary procedural steps, the police released her from the pre-trial detention cell.
Currently, officers are intensively searching for her companion, who escaped from the scene. In addition, they are checking whether the couple had a hand in other similar incidents in other parts of Vienna.
