The National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) took a position this Saturday (20) on the false messages that scared Brazilians in the early hours of this Saturday. According to the agency, “there is, at this time, no reason for concern on the part of the population as a result of the messages received.” Anatel also clarified that the alerts were not issued by the competent authorities responsible for the population alert system.
“The Agency reinforces the relevance of the Cell Broadcast alert system, capable of fulfilling its purpose of supporting disaster prevention and response actions, contributing to the protection of the population and the preservation of lives.”

In the early hours of Saturday, millions of Brazilians from different states received alerts with the message ‘‘misantropi4’. A National Civil Defense denied that issued the alert. According to the agency, a few minutes after the message and the audible alert.
According to the Civil Defense of São Paulo, the tool was developed by Anatel and Cenad (National Center for Risk and Disaster Management), and both bodies investigate the case.
While investigations are being carried out, the security tool will be deactivated.
